This event is the culmination of THE BEST GUN SHOW you could ever attend. You are viewing the first 6 1/2 minutes of the Knob Creek Machine Gun Night Shoot. Fully automatic weapons including the most modern M16 variations, AK47, .50 BMG, minigun, and classics from every major military conflict of the past century. Plus a few flares! Targets included propane tanks, automobiles, appliances, and large drums of fuel. This "outburst" ran for about 10 minutes, but the intensity had pretty much subsided at the 7 minute mark. Several shooters either did not reload, and/or they were no longer shooting tracers and incendiary ammo. The main range where the video was filmed is approximately 350-400 yards in length, and has a huge hill as a backstop. Due to the dry ground conditions and volume of smoke, you will notice the view becoming much more cloudy beginning around the 2:00 mark.
I was standing several rows back in the crowd, well beyond the left side of the shooting line. It is nearly impossible to get a clear unobstructed view. The majority of the shooting line is under a shed, and that area is crowded with security and Knob Creek support staff. Plus, factor in thousands of attendees, many holding their cameras high over their heads (as I did) to get the best possible view.
This event is held twice each year, in April and October. The October 2010 event was the first I had ever attended, and I was immensely impressed. VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE......attendees for these events make a significant contribution to the local economy; food, hotels, fuel, products, etc. Such is the nature of the 2nd Amendment in action.
ABOUT KNOB CREEK GUN RANGE: This is an active business entity located just south of Louisville, Kentucky; and adjacent to the northern border of the Fort Knox military installation. The Knob Creek property encompasses several hundred acres, including smaller ranges for renting and shooting guns, and observing competitions. Costs for renting and shooting full-auto weapons ranged up to $100, possibly higher depending on the firearm and amount of time/ammo.
This semi-annual event includes a massive gun show with hundreds of vendors and thousands of products represented. There is an on-site gun shop, fully stocked, open during normal business hours, and was certainly "shoppable" during the show. Admission to the October 2010 event was only $10.....tremendous value for periodic machine gun and cannon demonstrations, gun show, viewing competitions, and this traditional display of pyrotechnics. Compare this to the same amount you spend to just get in the door of your local gun show. Not to mention, the grilled burgers are great, and citizens with a state-issued reciprocal permit can open carry (no loaded magazine in the gun) on the property.
MESSAGE FOR THE ANTI-GUN ESTABLISHMENT: The sale and use of fully-automatic weapons is strictly regulated in the United States. Security and safety protocols at this event are exceptional, enforced by local law enforcement and staff of the gun range. I would not be surprised if private security personnel were also present. What you see here is protected under the 2nd Amendment, an attachment to our U.S. Constitution that for some reason, modern society wants to abolish one piece at a time. I have never felt safer at an event of this type. If you choose to post a comment, this is your opportunity to illustrate some intellect on the topic, or exploit your ignorance. Be prepared to accept the consequences of your comments.
If you oppose firearms and/or the 2nd Amendment, your time might be better spent advocating for victim's rights of violent crimes, truth-in-sentencing laws for habitual law breakers, and support for protecting the borders of our country. Not to mention, supporting our troops and law enforcement agencies. Consider that aspect, as opposed to criticizing a legal event supported by law-abiding citizens and firearms owners. It was also evident that numerous veterans were present.
What makes more sense for you.....protecting and preserving rights of the law-abiding, or ignoring the true social issues of our country?
